Our Methodology
Transparency is core to Stacky. This page explains exactly how we source, process, and present staking data.
Data sources
- Market data (price, market cap): CoinGecko API. We query current prices and market capitalizations for all tracked assets.
- Staking yields (APY): DeFi Llama Yields API. We match pools to assets using project and token identifiers, selecting the highest-TVL pool for each asset.
- Staking ratios: On-chain data where available, supplemented by industry estimates for smaller networks.
Update frequency
All data is refreshed every 4 hours. Pages display the most recent data available at the time of your visit.
APY calculation
APY (Annual Percentage Yield) figures represent the estimated annual return from staking, including compounding where applicable. These figures are sourced from DeFi Llama and reflect current network conditions. Actual returns may vary based on validator performance, network participation rates, and protocol changes.
Risk ratings
Our three-tier risk classification considers:
- Low: Established Layer 1 networks with large market caps, proven track records, and no slashing penalties (e.g., Ethereum, Cardano, Solana).
- Medium: Mid-cap networks, newer chains, or protocols with slashing conditions, lock-up periods, or moderate smart contract risk.
- High: Small-cap assets, experimental protocols, DeFi strategies with significant smart contract risk, or assets with high historical volatility.
Rankings
By default, assets are sorted by APY (descending). Users can re-sort by price, market cap, total staked, or staking ratio. Rankings are purely data-driven — affiliate relationships never influence sort order or placement.
Limitations
- APY figures are estimates, not guarantees. Past performance does not predict future returns.
- Some staking ratios rely on industry estimates rather than real-time on-chain data.
- We do not track every staking protocol — our coverage focuses on the most popular and liquid options.
- Data may be delayed up to 4 hours from current on-chain state.
